RIZONG GOMPA

Rizong Gompa lies 73 kms away from Leh. It is also known as the Rhizong Monastery which belongs to the Gelugpa or Yellow Hat sect of Buddhism, situated on the hilltop of a rocky valley of Indus.it is also known as the ‘Paradise of Meditation’. It is believed that Guru  Padmasambhava along with his disciples use to mediate in a cave near Rizong where they survived with only a meal in a day

• The monastery has three main chambers; two has the statues of Buddha and one has stupas
• There are beautiful paintings, murals and thangkas you can see in the monastery
• There are also Nunnery or Chomoling where females worship and conduct chores like spinning wool, milking and getting oil for worship
• There are many sacred places in the monastery complex
