The 108 feet tall statue of Maitreya Buddha is located just below the Diskit monastery, at an altitude of 10,308 feet. It represents 3 ideas: protection of Diskit Village, promotion of World peace and prevention of further war with Pakistan. To visit the Maitreya Buddha statue, Indians needs a Inner Line Permit while foreigners needs a Protected Area Permit.
The best time to visit the place is between May to September. Maitreya Buddha is situated just below the Diskit Monastery, so the best way to reach the place is by the road, by taking Manali-Leh Highway via Manali or Srinagar.
